This coffee roasting company was founded in 1956 by Don Giovanni Lovine in Santa Maria la Carità, a small town south of Naples.

At the time, everything started with a very manageable amount of roasting. The first machine held only 5 kg of beans - a small family business.

In the 1970s, the era of research and development began. New and larger roasting machines, quality control, improvement of individual processing steps and development of new products were steps that Caffè Barbaro also had to address.

At the same time, Caffè Barbaro continued to deal with several tons of green coffee per day, which were roasted and processed in the Neapolitan-style roasting plant. The typical Neapolitan roast is dark and oily, and the flavor is strong and intense. Thanks to the long roasting process, acids are practically non-existent.

The Gold (80/20) and Blue (50/50) qualities are suitable for palates that are looking for an intense taste, but that are able to compromise between the charge of Neapolitan coffee and the desire for sweetness, for a more relaxing experience. On the contrary, the qualities Rossa (20/80) and Nera (10/90), offer an even more full bodied coffee, with really strong tones. This is a rare quality on the market. With respectively 80% and 90% Robusta, the Rossa and Nera qualities stand out from the competition precisely because of the high levels of caffeine in the extracted beverage.
