The history of Aseli - Tradition and innovation since 1921

The story of Aseli begins with Alfred Seliger, a passionate young confectioner whose childhood dream was to create his own sweets/candies. Inspired and supported by his father, a master confectioner, after years of experimentation Alfred developed a unique recipe for “sparkling”/”fluffy” sweets, which today remains a well-kept family secret. In 1921, he founded his own company, naming it Aseli from the abbreviation of his name “Alfred Seliger”. His flagship and iconic product, the little white mice, quickly became famous in Berlin and beyond.

After 50 years of success, his son Heinz took over the reins of the family business, and today Aseli is run by the 3rd generation, Christian and Michael. Aseli remains a symbol of quality and creativity, with each confection telling its own story and delighting generations of sweet/candy lovers.

What is 'fluffy' sugar?

Also known as 'marshmallow' or 'foam' sugar, this is a type of sweet made mainly from sugar, gelling agents such as gelatine or agar-agar, and often egg whites. These ingredients are whipped together to form a soft mass, which is then moulded into different shapes and enriched with different flavours.
