Speicherstadt Coffee Orang Utan Espresso
100% Arabica - 250g whole bean
With each espresso in this project, you contribute to the protection of the orangutans and rainforest of Sumatra.
The orangutans in Sumatra are on the verge of extinction as international companies hunt for tropical timber and plantation land to destroy the rainforest. Today there are only about 6,500 wild orangutans left.
The orangutan coffee comes from smallholder families who cultivate their coffee gardens ecologically. This cultivation method preserves the natural balance. The farmers undertake to protect the rainforest with its animals and plants, for which they receive a premium of 0.50 € per kilogram of green coffee. A further 0.50 € goes to the Sumatra Orangutan Protection Programme (sumatranorangutan.org).
But this coffee not only protects the habitat of the orangutans, but it also tastes excellent. Thanks to the humid climate and the constant mist of Sumatra's rainforests, this Arabica coffee develops a deep, delicious aroma of pecan nut with notes of plum and brown sugar.
